LRF Rigs
and some of their uses

The Carolina rig is a very popular LRF rig similar to the Texas rig, but with the weight fixed above the hook, instead of sliding down to it.

The Carolina rig is designed to help fishermen catch bottom feeding fish, particularly in the colder months.  When placed in water, bait attached to a Carolina rig will move in a circular motion. Bottom feeders are attracted to this movement and are therefore more likely to bite the lure/bait. In the colder seasons the Carolina rig works very well as the heavy weight on the rig allows the bait to reach deeper waters, where fish typically stay in winter months.

The Carolina rig was originally used for freshwater fishing in the 70’s to target bass and the other bottom-feeding fish in lakes and rivers. Over the years the saltwater anglers have realised the benefits of this simple little rig.

The special thing about this rig is how it separates between the sinker and the bait giving a natural look to the offering and increasing the bites count.

The Carolina rig goes beyond taking the bait to the bottom and makes it also look more natural and

appealing to fish, which helps to have more bites. Once on the seabed, the leader starts to freely float in a circular path mimicking the movement of a wounded baitfish or a live shrimp or minnow. This encourages more predators to attack the bait as it looks similar to what they eat on a normal day.
